Corporate Volunteerism

Studies suggest that more than 8 out of 10 companies believe that offering skilled volunteers can help nonprofit groups operate more effectively, serve more clients, and reach their long-term goals.

At Meals on Wheels Chicago, we are continually working to engage the corporate community behind our efforts and believe that employee volunteerism makes a difference. While fundraising has been our main objective, we understand the importance of having a large support network. We also recognize that many corporations have time to give and would like to volunteer their employee's time and talent it in a meaningful and impactful way.

Meals on Wheels Chicago has many opportunities to volunteer ranging from ongoing committee involvement, to "done in a day" projects. Our aim is to provide opportunities for every interest level. Many people want to volunteer their time, but making a long-term commitment can be challenging. Our "done in a day" projects are perfect for companies because they require a limited amount of your time, at your convenience. For those who are interested in getting more involved and really being a vital part of the organization, we have ongoing projects where you will be supporting our work, while making meaningful connections and relationships with other like-minded individuals. Friends Beyond Years - "Done in a Day" Program
One of our newest programs is Friends Beyond Years. Working in partnership with the City of Chicago as well as Senior Lifestyle Corporation managed senior communities, which are also recipients of the Meals on Wheels program, we bring volunteer groups to these independent living communities and visit with the residents. The visits last about two hours and are structured around a predetermined group activity. Bingo, card games and crafts are often very popular with the seniors and volunteers alike. We also have had movie days and piano concerts! Many volunteers find the direct service volunteerism extremely rewarding. We work with multiple site locations around the greater-Chicagoland area and can accommodate groups up to 30 at a time. In addition, the times and days are flexible. The process for scheduling is simple: give us a few dates and times that work for your group and any other needs such as parking or access to public transportation and we do the rest. We will contact you once the day has been scheduled and help determine what activity your group would like to do. That's it!
