MOWC Awarded $20,000 Grant from The Chicago Community Trust

Meals on Wheels Chicago (MOWC) was awarded a $20,000 grant from Chicago based community foundation, The Chicago Community Trust. This grant was made possible through The Chicago Community Trust's Unity Challenge, a fund created specifically to address the increased demand for human services during challenging economic crisis. This grant will be applied to MOWC's Home Delivered Meals Program, which provides two meals per day, five days a week, to nearly 11,000 homebound seniors in need. With this grant, Meals on Wheels Chicago will provide nearly 6,000 meals to recipients throughout the 2011-2012 holiday season.
As an organization striving to meet the basic human needs of Chicago's most vulnerable populations, Meals on Wheels Chicago is grateful to have been selected by the Trust. MOWC Board President, Amy Dordek Dolinsky, commented "the organization is honored to have been chosen and recognized by The Chicago Community Trust as a non-profit organization making a significant impact in the senior community through our programs and initiatives." Executive Director, Kimberly Porritt also commented "we are grateful for this new partnership and the opportunity to really aid our community of homebound seniors who've experienced tremendous strain during the economic hardship."
About Meals on Wheels Chicago
Since 1987, MOWC has worked in partnership with the Chicago Department of Family & Support Services and the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, to fulfill its mission to ensure homebound senior citizens and individuals with disabilities, maintain dignified and independent lifestyles by providing them with warm, nutritious meals and related services. Through our
private fundraising efforts, MOWC successfully fill the gaps in limited government funding received by the city departments and are the sole source of support for holiday, emergency, and weekend meal services for Chicago's homebound elderly.
