Home Modification (HomeMod)

Meals on WheelsMeals on Wheels Chicago supports the existing Home Modification program through The Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities which was created as part of their accessible housing initiative. This service allows qualified individuals with disabilities to receive home modifications to make their living environment more accessible. The Home Modification program is a natural fit for Meals on Wheels Chicago to support, as the program focuses on providing solutions for individuals with disabilities to gain independence and dignity in their own homes. Much like the meal delivery program, we rely on the Department to expertly manage all inquiry and eligibility determinations and Meals on Wheels Chicago provides funding to as many projects as we are able.

Modifications are limited to a maximum of $10,000 per project and are performed by licensed, insured and experienced home remodeling companies.

Typical alterations include kitchen and bathroom modifications and the addition of interior and exterior lifts and ramps. Specific modifications can include the installation of grab bars, lowering cabinets and countertops and widening doorways. Subsequent work may include, but is not limited to, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, dry walling, tiling and painting.
