Home Delivered Meals (HDM)

Meals on WheelsThe Home Delivered Meals program provides nutritious meals to eligible homebound seniors who do not have a support system in place and cannot obtain meals. By ensuring these daily food deliveries are made and this program succeeds, we offer homebound seniors a reliable food source and maintain the nutritional health of older adults, which is an important component in the total quality of life a person experiences in their later years.

Meals on Wheels Chicago works in partnership with the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services- Senior Services Area Agency on Aging, and Open Kitchens, to ensure all eligible seniors are enrolled in the program and receive meal service. Meals on Wheels Chicago raises private funds to fill the gaps in limited government funding received by the city department and are the sole source of support for holiday, emergency, and weekend meal services for our city's homebound elderly.

Holiday Meals: The Holiday Meal program currently provides two nutritionally balanced home delivered meals to thousands of homebound seniors in the city of Chicago. Unfortunately, many of these individuals have no other means to access food and would go without food during the holidays. Our program now covers six legal holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Emergency Meals: Individuals who experience a sudden change in their home environment, support system, or general health may benefit from Emergency Meals. Often times a senior will require meal delivery post-hospital stay or for a temporary period of time. Emergency meals can offer peace of mind during this adjustment period.

Weekend Meals: For seniors who require seven day meal delivery service, Meals on Wheels Chicago covers the cost of having meals available on Saturday and Sunday as wekk. In addition to receiving meals Monday through Friday, seniors who require daily meals have that option through our weekend meals program.
