As part of our 30 Faces of Meals on Wheels Chicago series to celebrate our 30th year, we recently sat down with Paula Conrad, Senior Manager for Corporate Relations at ComEd/Exelon, to talk about their longtime support.

ComEd has been a partner of Meals on Wheels Chicago for over 10 years. It was an easy decision for us to partner due to the stellar reputation of Meals on Wheels Chicago. At the start, we supported their home-delivered meals program for people with disabilities. We expanded our support by sending ComEd employees to a senior center as volunteers. We served the seniors a warm meal and played bingo with State Representative Greg Harris as bingo caller. We enjoy this community outreach because one can tell how much it means to the seniors.

Meals on Wheels’ mission resonates with ComEd employees. When we promote our holiday volunteering opportunities, we do not have to explain what Meals on Wheels does; they all know of its importance, and they enthusiastically sign up to participate. It heartening to behold the sea of red ComEd shirts out in the community spending the holiday season with senior-citizens and making a difference.

Anyone who is considering donating to Meals on Wheels Chicago should also volunteer at one of their community events. You will see how powerful it is to provide an underserved person with a hot meal, and if that is not making a difference, I don’t know what is.

Thank you to everyone at from ComEd/Exelon!  #MOWCHeroes
