Wanted: More Awesome Board Members!

Meals on Wheels Chicago is currently accepting applications for membership on its board.

Are you looking to evolve your purpose in life? Consider joining a board for a non-profit that is driven by a singular mission with a huge impact to feed and provide companionship to Chicago’s homebound seniors and people with disabilities.

Board members are the fiduciary stewards who steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by making sure the nonprofit has adequate resources to advance its mission.

Meals on Wheels Chicago (MOWC) is governed by a board of directors drawn from a cross-section of business, medicine, law, and local government. The Board will support the work of the Meals on Wheels Chicago staff team and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance.

Board Members will need to consider MOWC a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that MOWC can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, MOWC’s expects to have 100 percent of Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity, at a minimum of the board required give/get. It is additionally expected that board members will attend and participate in the success of MOWC’s special events, including at leadership levels of support of the annual Celebrity Chef Ball.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about Meals on Wheels Chicago’s mission and who has a track record of board leadership. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature in business, government, philanthropy or the nonprofit sector. Their accomplishments will allow them to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members. Ideal Candidates Will Have The Following Qualifications:

  • Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector.
  • A commitment to and understanding of MOWC’s beneficiaries.
  • Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of Meals on Wheels Chicago’s beneficiaries.
