March 4, 2020: The home-meal delivery program in Chicago relies on federal funding authorized by the Older Americans Act (OAA). Last night, the Senate unanimously passed the Supporting Older Americans Act of 2020, a bill that would reauthorize the OAA for five more years. Over the past several weeks, supporters of Meals on Wheels nationwide sent over 1,500 emails to the Senate, reaching every office to urge them to pass this bill, and we thank all of our supporters in Chicago who took action!
Now that this OAA reauthorization bill has cleared the Senate, the House must pass it before it goes to the President’s desk to be signed into law. We encourage you to contact your representatives seeking their support for this bill. Take two minutes today to advocate for Meals on Wheels by emailing your representatives!
