July 14, 2020: Meals on Wheels Chicago made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Celebrity Chef Ball (CCB). We are saddened that for the first time in 31 years this incredible event that provides financial support for our mission will not take place. We are also keenly aware that CCB is just one in a long list of fundraising events, businesses, and livelihoods impacted by current events. As we work through the ramifications of this unprecedented situation we remain hopeful the public health crisis will ease so we can gather in celebration again in 2021.
The future is hard to predict, but there are two things we know will remain true: 1) seniors and people with disabilities will continue to rely on the home meal delivery program, and 2) we need the support of individual donors to keep feeding people in need. It is particularly difficult to cancel fundraising events when enrollment in the home meal delivery program has grown by 67% during the pandemic. With over 10,000 clients now relying on Meals on Wheels Chicago to keep them nourished and safe, and with all three of our 2020 fundraising events cancelled, we need your help now more than ever.
