3 FALL ACTIVITIES TO DO WITH SENIORS

During the autumn season, local farms often have pumpkin patches, apple orchards, and fall festivals for the public to attend and enjoy. Do some research and locate the best farm with fall activities near you. Once you arrive, pick up a cup of apple cider, stroll through the fields, and soak up the fall decorations and spooky activities. Take home a couple of pumpkins and gourds – the perfect additions to your home! This activity is a wonderful opportunity to get outside and enjoy the crisp weather with the seniors in your life.

While you enjoy your time outdoors this fall, be sure to keep an eye out for fallen leaves on the ground. These leaves come in a variety of shapes and colors, and they are fun to search for and admire while on a walk. When you find some leaves that you like, collect them and note the intricate details that exist on every leaf. Be sure to collect fresh leaves, avoiding the ones that are dry and curling at the corners.

Once you get home, create a sealant by mixing basic glue and water together. Paint both sides of your leaves to ensure that they keep their shape and color. When your sealant mixture dries, place your leaves in between newspaper pages and two large books. Keep your leaves pressed for one to two weeks, checking on them every couple of days. Once you are satisfied with the appearance of your pressed leaves, remove them from the book press and enjoy! This is a fun activity for the whole family, and the leaves serve as great autumn decorations!

As the weather cools down outside, it is the perfect time to get cozy inside your home. Help the senior citizens in your life transform their homes with vibrant autumn decorations. You can use decorations that have been used in the past, or you can make a special trip to the store to collect some new items. Second-hand stores are a great place to look! Fall wreaths, spooky décor, and festive pillows are the perfect autumn-themed additions to any home. If you visit a local farm and press leaves prior to decorating, then the collected pumpkins, gourds, and leaves can be transformed into home decorations, as well.

Remember, the most important thing is to spend time with the seniors in your life. We hope you make lots of new memories together this fall!
