Born and raised in Mexico City, Chef Katsuji Tanabe spent his formative years training alongside private chefs in the homes of the city’s elite; picking up recipes and techniques, all while developing a lifelong passion for Mexican cooking. With natural skill in the kitchen, Tanabe chose to pursue a culinary career by studying at Le Cordon Bleu, living in Japan to research Japanese culture and fare, and ultimately moving to the United States to further his success. Before long, his inherent skill was noticed by numerous networks and was selected to be a contender on Bravo’s television hit competition series, “Top Chef” and Food Network’s “Chopped”. It was Chef Tanabe’s passion for food, determination to succeed, and unqiue background that ultimately led to his appointment as Barrio’s Executive Chef. Executive Chef Tanabe’s culturally diverse background has highly impacted Barrio’s eclectic yet authentic Mexican cuisine.
