According to the annual Volunteering in America study released by the Corporation for National and Community Service, Americans volunteered in large numbers in 2010, with 62.8 million adults serving almost 8.1 billion hours through non-profit organizations.
Meals on Wheels Chicago hosts several events through out the year, and we could not do it with out our dedicated volunteers! Event opportunities range from serving as a volunteer during the event or helping to plan and execute an event by serving on the committee. If you are interested, please contact us. Below you will find a description of each of our events.
Celebrity Chef Ball
Two decades ago, Meals on Wheels pioneered the “Celebrity Chef” buzz with an annual brunch event. Since then, the event evolved into a dinner gala attracting over 1000 people to dine on cuisine by the country’s most renowned chefs. To this day, the Celebrity Chef Ball offers a remarkable opportunity for chefs from around the country to join forces for one special day and truly make an impact on Chicago’s senior and disabled community. In 2007, our event was chosen to be featured on Bravo’s hit culinary reality show Top Chef. In our two-tier format, the event will feature 50-60 top chefs from Chicago and around the country. Volunteers are needed in just about every capacity from planning, to helping set up for a magical evening, to volunteering at the auction to working alongside famous chefs.
The Golf Classic is an intergenerational event that attracts golf enthusiasts comprised of business professionals and industry executives. The tournament is played in a scramble format and features 18 holes of golf, lunch served on the course, contests, and a dinner that includes open bar and raffle prizes. Volunteer needs range from running registration and selling raffle tickets, to course monitoring throughout the day.
As a volunteer, you will receive quarterly updates via our organization newsletter and invitations to our special events. You will also receive emails for specific volunteer requests as they arise. Like many nonprofit organizations, volunteers are an integral part of Meals on Wheels Chicago, and we rely heavily on their support and hard work. We need dedicated volunteers to support our events and ensure successful outcomes.
We look forward to working with you soon!
