Look For The Helpers

Nourish Chicago Pantry Volunteers

Volunteers at the Meals on Wheels Chicago Nourish Chicago Pantry gather for a group photo before distributing fresh groceries to over 300 seniors at Central West Senior Center.

November 24, 2025 — For many in my generation, Mr. Rogers is a hero. He brought calm and clarity to our childhood struggles, teaching us the importance of kindness. I love his quote:

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”

As we look around our community, we find the helpers among us, like you. Our supporters understand the magic of breaking bread—how food isn’t just sustenance, but an expression of connection and love. Nutritious food is vital for both physical health and a fulfilling life.

Each year during the holidays, I feel full of gratitude for our community. It is YOU who truly recognizes the power of compassion, as you rise up together in support of Chicago’s seniors. In today’s world, older people face a myriad of challenges. As they live longer, they face physical and financial hurdles that force them into heart-wrenching decisions between healthy meals, prescription medications, or even staying warm.

This holiday season, we celebrate the resilience and wisdom of our seniors. They deserve healthy food and companionship without undue stress. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve made strides in addressing unmet needs and have expanded our programs to serve seniors throughout their entire journey. However, we face funding challenges that impact our ability to sustain these efforts.

We look to you for support, to continue to provide comfort and connection to thousands of seniors. Because of you, they will find nutritious food, lasting connections, dignity, and peace of mind. Let’s work together to make a positive difference in their lives! Thank you for being the helpers. Thank you for being part of this important mission.

With my deepest gratitude,
