Two Additional Senior Center Produce Markets Added This Month
November 10, 2025 — Two Additional Senior Center Produce Markets Added This Month
To Help Fill the Snap Gap, Meals on Wheels Chicago Expands Nourish Chicago Pantry Access to Feed the City’s Most Vulnerable
As older adults across Chicago face increased uncertainty around SNAP benefits, Meals on Wheels Chicago (MoWC) is taking action to ensure no senior is left without access to nutritious food. The organization will add two additional senior center pantries distributions this month, at the Southeast Regional Senior Center and Southwest Regional Senior Center, expanding its reach to help meet the growing need.
The new pantry distributions are scheduled for November 20 and November 21, providing fresh produce to an estimated 250–350 seniors at each site. All food is purchased directly through the generous support of Meals on Wheels Chicago’s donors, reflecting the community’s shared commitment to ending hunger among Chicago’s aging population.
"Meals on Wheels Chicago has supported older adults for over 39 years," said Executive Director Elise Geiger. "As many people face reduced SNAP benefits and financial uncertainty, we are dedicated to ensuring every senior has their needs met. Our new pantries significantly enhance our commitment to uplifting the community during these challenging times. Together, we can make a difference!"
Meals on Wheels Chicago currently runs the Nourish Chicago pantry alongside its home-delivered meal program, together serving over 4.7 million meals to seniors and individuals with disabilities who are facing hunger. The addition of these two new sites will help ensure that more residents, particularly those in neighborhoods most affected by federal cuts, continue having consistent access to healthy food.
About Meals on Wheels Chicago
Since 1987, Meals on Wheels Chicago (MoWC) has been dedicated to ensuring that no one in Chicago goes hungry or feels forgotten. For 39 years, the organization has provided healthy meals and regular check-ins to seniors and individuals with disabilities who are homebound.
The Nourish Chicago Pantry offers clean, whole foods of grocery-store quality specifically for seniors, most of whom live below the poverty level. With the support of donations and volunteers, MoWC has expanded its reach to seniors who combat food insecurity and isolation. In addition to meal delivery and the Nourish Chicago Pantry food, MoWC provides wellness items, healthy cooking demonstrations, and pet food assistance for seniors.
“I just can’t move around like I used to and standing over the stove hurts my back so much. I may never meet the people who help me. But I want them to know that I certainly appreciate their kindness. I thank them for allowing me to stay in the home that [my husband] John and I built. And I really like Leon, my driver, he is so friendly and positive.” Harriet, MOWC Client
